Clare Ransom
Clare’s work shows her detailed observation of nature which provides her with the inspiration to make her beautifully-crafted pieces of contemporary silverware. The flow of water, branching stems, crevices in a rock or an unfurling leaf, are delicate features evident in her pieces.

The work she creates also reflects her response to the inherent qualities of silver. The careful manipulation of the metal through hammering, folding, stretching and pleating creates exquisite tactile, organic vessels. These pieces transcend the limitations of the original flat sheet, evolving delicate surface textures in their making.

The vibrancy of rivers, rapids, cascades and the fluidity of water in its many moods are the collective inspiration for these experimental pieces of modern domestic silverwork. Flasks, flagons, jugs, bowls and other vessels are created by a combination of innovative piercing, seaming and overlap techniques which impart a flowing, dynamic quality to each piece.
